Functional Friday 11/1
Are you challenging yourself?
Functional Friday with Dr. Nick and Dr. Danny
Happy Friday! Hope everyone who celebrates Halloween had spooktacular time. Dr. Danny dressed up as a New Yorker who’s actually happy and Dr. Nick dressed up as a cowboy in space cuz you never know how wild it can get up there.
1% Better: Challenge yourself
“Challenge yourself, its the only path that leads to growth” - Morgan Freeman
Curious?
For the past few weeks, Dr. Nick has been doing 75 hard, a challenge about self discipline and mental toughness. While the actual guidelines to the challenge may present as a physical challenge, if you ask anyone who’s tried or completed the challenge, they will tell you it is much more mental than physical. I’ll explain the challenge momentarily.
In addition to participating in 75 hard, he also signed up for a marathon in February, which will be his first. He was encouraged by a couple of friends to sign up for the marathon (Dr. Danny is going to cheer us on 📣).
This is by no means meant to act as a brag of any sorts, but to encourage you to try and challenge yourself with something that you think is difficult, impossible even. Get out of your comfort zone and find out a little more about yourself.
Of course, if you do decide to do 75 Hard or train for your first marathon, please do this safely and ask for guidance or advice if needed. These are simply examples, not what we necessarily recommend.
75 Hard is a challenge where you have to:
Workout 2x/day for 45 minutes. Once indoors, once outdoors
Read 10 pages of a non-fictional book a day
Drink a gallon of water every day
Take a progress picture each day
Abstain from drinking alcohol
Follow a diet (Dr. Nick is not eating gluten for the length of time)
If you break any of these rules even on day 74, you have to restart the 75 days.
With that being said, Nick has tried this challenge in the past and made it to 16 days. He is currently at 25 days and is going to challenge himself to do it until the day of his Marathon on February 9th which ends up being 126 Hard instead of 75 Hard.
Nicks current difficulties with 75 Hard:
Time management
Not eating gluten (much harder than you’d think)
Having to use the restroom more frequently
Doing an activity he once despised (running)
Nicks current wins from doing 75 Hard:
Becoming more disciplined in doing activities and saying no
Feeling like a million bucks from not drinking or eating junky foods
Great nights sleep
Feeling as if he’s in his best physical shape
Learning to enjoy running
With all that being said, find a challenge, have a friend do a challenge with you, hold each other accountable and go be a badass. Get out of your comfort zone, improve yourself in any which way you never thought possible.
Are you being complacent and expecting things to change, without actually changing anything? Challenge yourself to do something difficult and see what happens.
What do you have to lose?

Forward Physio Past & Upcoming Events:
We are still finalizing events for November, but will share them when they are!
Forward Physio had the opportunity to provide our recovery services to the folks who make Hillsborough County operate smoothly (meter readers, account management, operations, etc.) at the Hillsborough County Mini Health Fair yesterday. We had a great time providing our services to the workers who tirelessly ensure the county is running efficiently and with as little hiccups as possible. Thank you to all who came by our tent!
Have a great Friday, try to challenge yourself, and remember to function forward!
