4th of July Fun Facts, Sleep Hygiene, and Hip Hinging

Happy Friday! Did you know that 150 million hot dogs are consumed on 4th of July? Joey Chestnut, who is banned from this year’s Nathan’s hot dog eating contest, has a record of eating 62 hotdogs in 10 minutes. That accounts for at least 0.00000041% of those hotdogs.
Another 4th of July Fun Fact: John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, the only two to sign the Declaration of Independence and later become presidents, BOTH died on July 4th, 1826. 🤯

We know that its talked about all the time BUT we’re here to remind you anyway…
SLEEP IS IMPORTANT!
As performance physical therapist it is our duty to ensure you are well aware of the definition and benefits of good sleep hygiene. If you’re unsure what that term means, it does not refer to how clean you are when going to sleep (though, we do also recommend being clean before going to bed), but to a set of practices and habits that are conducive to sleeping well on a regular basis. For example, having consistent wake/sleep times, winding down before bed, and creating a comfortable environment (refer to link above for more).
Good sleep hygiene:
Decreases the risk of
The number one cause of death in the US: Cardiovascular Disease
The 8th highest cause of death: Diabetes
Obesity
While improving:
Mood (depression, emotional regualtion)
Performance (weight lifting, running, endurance, etc)
Cognitive Function (Decision making, problem solving, creativity)
This is why a good sleep routine is important required!
